The skin loses a lot of moisture during the cold winter months, making it sensitive, dehydrated and thus less protected. The body´s natural production of collagen and elastin decreases from your mid-20´s, making it even more difficult for the skin to keep moisture. If you actively make an effort to preserve your normal collagen production, eat healthy and protect your skin with a good moisturizer without water throughout winter, the dryness can be easier to control.

- Temperature changes stresses and dries out skin. You can help ease this by regulating the heat inside. Keep the room temperature at a slightly cooler level that is neither too cold nor too hot - positive not only on dry skin, but also the heating bill.
- The delicate skin appreciates mild soaps and skincare products well suited for your skin type. Choose products with a pH value as similar to the skin as possible (5.5) and use as little perfume and harsh ingredients that can irritate as possible.
- It is tempting to take long, hot showers on the coldest winter days, but this can weaken the skin's barrier and natural fat layer, which makes the skin more sensitive and susceptible to irritation.
- Your skin thrives if it gets lots of moisture. Use good skincare products with protective ingredients, preferably a cold cream that protects the skin properly if you are out in sub zero degrees for an extended period of time.
