what you can do with the orange peel

Orange peel powder with collagen

In the same way as we upcycle cod skin to create collagen powder, you can also upcycle orange peel and create something useful and incredibly tasty. This powder can be used to add orange flavour to smoothies, cakes, oatmeal, or plain yogurt. Did you know that orange peel contains natural nutrients? In the peel and the slightly bitter white flesh beneath the peel, there are both essential oils and vitamin C, which you can benefit from with this recipe. At the same time, you're upcycling waste into a delicious product that provides both utility and joy – is there anything better? If you're curious to learn more about how we work with upcycling in connection with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, you can read more on our blog

This is what you need

Orange peel/collagen powder, about 4 servings:

The peel of 3-4 organic oranges

Procedure

Preheat the oven to 90 degrees Celsius.
Spread the peels on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
Bake them for about 1-2 hours until they become crispy and easily breakable.
Leave the oven door slightly open to let the moisture escape.
Shake the pieces a bit during baking to ensure even drying.
Check regularly to prevent burning.
Let them cool for about 10 minutes.
Grind the dried peels into a fine powder in a blender.
Then add 20 grams of Collagen Gold powder and mix well.
Pour into a glass jar with a tight lid and store in the refrigerator. Add 2 tablespoons to a smoothie, give your plain yogurt a hint of orange flavor with 1 tablespoon of orange powder, or add 1-2 tablespoons to brownie batter. Yum!
